Pastor's message

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you, says Jesus. This promise seems incredible. Whatever? Literally "anything"? So everything? So many requests go unanswered and expectations unfulfilled.

Notice, however, that Jesus sets a condition: If you abide in me. And this is not easy to achieve. Because "to abide in Jesus" is to be like a twig growing from the trunk of a bush. Its very existence depends on its grafting into the life-giving trunk. Man is not a twig. He wants to be independent in existence and action. He wants to achieve a lot - but he owes it to himself. Meanwhile, says Jesus, you are like a twig. You can reach for anything, but first you must place everything in my hands. The prospect is wonderful, but it is so difficult to give up everything, even to gain everything.

Why is it so difficult? One of the reasons is indicated by the apostle John: Children, he writes, let us not love in word or tongue, but in deed and truth. This encouragement comes from observing our world, where it is so easy to make verbal declarations, but it is more difficult to find the truth expressed through deed, attitude, life, and with one's whole being. This truth takes a lot of effort.

And this truth's name is love. Yes, you can talk about love endlessly. Notice that the most common and easiest thing to talk about (write, make films) is love - a feeling, about love that would like to possess, have and enjoy having someone. However, this is not the kind of love that the Apostle calls "work and truth." He says: that we may believe in the name of Jesus... and love one another as he commanded us. We know what Jesus commanded: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you" (John 13:34). And he loved us, giving everything - giving all of himself, even to the madness of the cross. Everything for everything. If you give everything out of love for God and people, if through sacrificial love you become one with Jesus - like a branch with a bush, then whatever you ask God for will come true. This is the secret of the powerful power of the saints' intercession.

That we may believe... and love one another - love grows from faith. Or to put it another way: if love is compared to a branch bearing fruit, then faith should be compared to a bush, to the trunk from which it grows. So, can there be no love without faith? Indeed, the deepest, truest love always springs from faith. Only a man who sees more and further than earthly calculations allow is capable of giving everything. And gain everything. I will say more: the more complete the faith, the more it broadens a person's view, the more it warms his spiritual interior - the more it results in love. Faith reaches to God, and love makes us go further. Further than God? Yes, because God became man.

This is the essence of the Christian faith. Therefore, the love that grows from this faith turns towards man. The observation of the saints confirms this in countless cases. Therefore, prayer and contemplation of the mysteries of God take man away from the world for a short time, just as long as it takes to become deeply rooted in Him. Soon, a man united with God returns to the world and is able to transform the world. He received everything from God for everything. There are such people in the world today need.

Si permanecéis en mí y mis palabras permanecen en vosotros, pediréis todo lo que queráis y os será hecho, dice Jesús. Esta promesa parece increíble. ¿Lo que sea? ¿Literalmente "cualquier cosa"? ¿Entonces todo? Muchas solicitudes quedan sin respuesta y muchas expectativas no se cumplen.

Note, sin embargo, que Jesús pone una condición: si permanecéis en mí. Y esto no es fácil de lograr. Porque "permanecer en Jesús" es ser como una ramita que crece del tronco de un arbusto. Su existencia misma depende de su injerto en el tronco dador de vida. El hombre no es una ramita. Quiere ser independiente en existencia y acción. Quiere lograr mucho, pero se lo debe a sí mismo. Mientras tanto, dice Jesús, tú eres como una ramita. Puedes alcanzar cualquier cosa, pero primero debes poner todo en mis manos. La perspectiva es maravillosa, pero es muy difícil renunciar a todo, incluso ganarlo todo.

¿Por qué es tan difícil? Una de las razones la indica el apóstol Juan: Hijitos, escribe, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad. Este estímulo proviene de la observación de nuestro mundo, donde es muy fácil hacer declaraciones verbales, pero es más difícil encontrar la verdad expresada a través de los hechos, la actitud, la vida y con todo el ser. Esta verdad requiere mucho esfuerzo.

Y el nombre de esta verdad es amor. Sí, puedes hablar de amor sin cesar. Tenga en cuenta que lo más común y más fácil de hablar (escribir, hacer películas) es el amor: un sentimiento de amor que le gustaría poseer, tener y disfrutar de tener a alguien. Sin embargo, éste no es el tipo de amor que el Apóstol llama "obra y verdad". Dice: para que creamos en el nombre de Jesús... y nos amemos unos a otros como él nos mandó. Sabemos lo que Jesús ordenó: "Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: que os améis unos a otros, como yo os he amado" (Juan 13:34). Y él nos amó dándolo todo, entregándose todo a sí mismo, incluso hasta la locura de la cruz. Todo por todo. Si lo das todo por amor a Dios y a las personas, si a través del amor sacrificial te vuelves uno con Jesús, como una rama con un arbusto, entonces todo lo que le pidas a Dios se hará realidad. Éste es el secreto del poderoso poder de la intercesión de los santos.

Para que creamos... y nos amemos unos a otros: el amor crece de la fe. O dicho de otro modo: si se compara el amor con una rama que da fruto, entonces la fe debe compararse con una zarza, con el tronco del que crece. Entonces, ¿no puede haber amor sin fe? De hecho, el amor más profundo y verdadero siempre surge de la fe. Sólo un hombre que ve más y más allá de lo que permiten los cálculos terrenales es capaz de darlo todo. Y ganarlo todo. Diré más: cuanto más completa es la fe, más amplía la visión de la persona, más calienta su interior espiritual, más resulta en amor. La fe llega a Dios y el amor nos hace llegar más lejos. ¿Más lejos que Dios? Sí, porque Dios se hizo hombre.

Ésta es la esencia de la fe cristiana. Por tanto, el amor que nace de esta fe se vuelve hacia el hombre. La observación de los santos lo confirma en innumerables casos. Por tanto, la oración y la contemplación de los misterios de Dios alejan al hombre del mundo por un corto tiempo, el tiempo necesario para arraigarse profundamente en Él. Pronto, un hombre unido a Dios regresa al mundo y es capaz de transformar el mundo. Recibió todo de Dios para todo. Hay personas así en el mundo de hoy necesidad.

Durante mucho tiempo ha sido un entendimiento católico que cuando las circunstancias impiden que uno reciba la Sagrada Comunión, es posible realizar un Acto de Comunión Espiritual, que es una fuente de gracia. La comunión espiritual es un deseo ardiente de recibir a Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento y abrazarlo con amor en un momento o circunstancias en las que uno no puede recibirlo en la comunión sacramental.
